Director of Corporate Development

Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, Jetpack, and WooCommerce, is looking for an exceptional candidate to lead Corporate Development.

As a Director of Corporate Development, you will identify, assess, and prioritize new business opportunities; negotiate terms and integrate acquisitions; and partner with internal teams to increase the top lines of our various business units.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct market and user research to identify, assess, and prioritize new business opportunities
  • Make buy/build/partner decisions, and evaluate potential acquisition targets
  • Execute deals and oversee their long-term success
  • Help optimize pricing, bundles, and purchase flows for paid products
  • Collaborate with teams across Automattic to ensure success

Requirements:

  • Experience doing market and competitive research
  • Technical background with an understanding of CMS and hosting environments
  • Strong quantitative/analytical skills, including the ability to model business opportunities, assess trade-offs, and conduct a due diligence
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Legal, Engineering, and Finance teams
  • Ability to build and scale a team

All Positions on this Team Require

  • Great communication skills. We’re a distributed team, so frequent and clear written communication is a must.
  • Self-driven work ethic. You need to be a self-starter who loves taking initiative and seeing things through to completion.
  • Curiosity and the desire to learn. Our business is changing and growing fast, who knows what will be the skills of tomorrow? Flexibility is key.
  • Ability to timeshift 1-2 days/week. You will need to overlap with teams in Europe or the West Coast
  • Ability to travel between four and six weeks a year. You will travel periodically for your team meet-up, a company all-hands, meetings with partners or acquisition targets, and to join partner teams’ meet-ups. Additional travel will be optional.
