A year in review:
Things done in twenty sixteen
To empower you.*

Howdy! We're the people behind WordPress.com, WooCommerce, Jetpack, and a bunch of other products for WordPress.

We are passionate about making the web a better place. We don't build software for free –– we build it for freedom. Our goal is to democratize publishing and commerce so that anyone with a story or idea can share it with the world regardless of income, gender, politics, language, or location.

We believe in open source and the vast majority of our work is available under the GPL. We also contribute to a number of non-profit and open source projects, like WordPress.org, BuddyPress, the P2 theme, and WordPress for Android and iOS.

From its earliest days into the present, WordPress.com stands for community and innovation. WordPress.com is about building an online home to tell your story, showcase your business, and connect with the world –– with the freedom to own your data on the web.

Small businesses make the world go round. This year WooCommerce empowered 530,000 more store builders to ship their ideas, with a total of over 1.5M active stores worldwide now powered by Woo.

This year brought some exciting changes to WooCommerce, including building our API on top of the WordPress REST API, adding shipping zones, and improving the My Account screen. 2017 is set to be an exciting year, with a focus on making setup and scaling easier across the globe.

None of this would be possible without the open source project, WordPress. Everything we do begins, ends, and lives in WordPress. WordPress now powers over 27% of the web, and has one of the largest contributor communities in the world.
